Gil Reminds Everyone Of His Skill With Three Goal Contributions vs Miami
Let's praise the Revs' midfield maestro.
The New England Revolution’s 3-1 win over Inter Miami CF on Saturday was a reminder of Carles Gil’s skill.
Gil provides highlight reel moments on a weekly basis to the point that he receives criticism if he doesn’t get his name on the scoresheet.
The midfielder put on a show this weekend, finishing the night with one goal and two assists.
Gil’s first major contribution was a picturesque pass to Matt Polster, who was making a run into the box. Polster earned a penalty, paving the way for Gil to collect his sixth tally of the season.
Seven minutes later, Gil played provider, sending in a corner kick that Polster put in the back of the net. Gil got his second helper of the night after his long ball was controlled by Bobby Wood.
Head coach Bruce Arena summarized Gil’s efforts, saying, “He’s always good. You can copy that for the next 17 games as well. It's going to be the same comment probably. He's always good.”
The comment is spot on. The former MVP is consistently dangerous, to the point that he might be taken for granted.
On May 31, Taylor Twellman called Gil the greatest player in Revs history. Last night, the Spaniard entered rarified air by becoming the fifth player in club history to amass 80 goal contributions.
It’s worth noting that Gil was quite good at orchestrating from deep against Miami. There were a few times when he unsettled their backline with a long, seeking ball.
The return of Gustavo Bou is good for Gil as the two have always had strong chemistry. Gil has also established a strong relationship with Bobby Wood.
While Miami is a weak opponent, Gil’s performance was a reminder of how good he is.
In fact, the Gillette Stadium sign paid tribute to the man.
