Former Vermont Green Winger Represents Inter Milan at TST
“I just feel like [it was an] unbelievable experience."
Felipe D’Agostini has fond memories of his lone season with Vermont Green FC but this spring he traded in a Green kit for a Blue and Black striped one.
D’Agostini represented Serie A side Inter Milan at The Soccer Tournament in Cary, North Carolina. The Brazilian’s former college coach — and a former coach of D’Agostini’s current club Des Moines Menace of USL League Two — was selected to coach Inter at TST.
At the time, D’Agostini was playing for Simcoe County Rovers FC, a Canadian club in League1 Ontario. But D’Agostini ended up moving to play for the Menace and there were no conflicts, meaning he could represent I Nerazzurri.
“I just feel like [it was an] unbelievable experience, like the setup since the first first day we got there,” he said. “Like, the staff they were so nice, so welcoming and so were the legends, they still want to know your story, want to know more about you.”
Some of those legends were the likes of Borja Valero, Francesco Colonnese, Giorgios Karagounis, Marco Materazzi, and Tommaso Berni.
While boasting a roster full of Serie A heroes, the club didn’t advance past the group stage. The team only got together a few days after the tournament and players were more suited to playing on large, regulation-size pitches compared to the much smaller fields that feature at TST.
But D’Agostini felt at home on the smaller pitches.
“I’ve always played futsal,” he said. “I’ve always played in Brazil seven-v-seven which is the most common to play with friends because it is easier than to find 22 people and Brazilians like to play in the smaller fields so I’ve been playing them more than 11-v-11 all my life and for me it was perfect.”
D’Agostini’s 2024 season came to a disappointing end. While he recorded back-to-back hat tricks within his first five games in Iowa, D’Agostini tore his hamstring and was forced to watch the Menace playoff journey from the sidelines. Des Moines was knocked out in the Conference Semifinals in the most heartwrenching of fashions, a penalty kick shootout.
But the experience of playing for Inter is a memory that will stick with D’Agostini for a lifetime. No one can take that blue and black striped jersey away from him.
