Dylan Borrero Will Be Available Against Inter Miami CF
Porter: “Borrero, he’s going to be available, but will he play? I don't know."
Dylan Borrero will be available for the first time in 2024 on Saturday.
The speedy winger has been out since Apr. 29, 2023 due to an ACL injury. While Borrero isn’t ready to start, he could get minutes off the bench against Inter Miami CF.
“Borrero, he’s going to be available, but will he play?” Porter said on Thursday. “I don't know. It’s tight, but it's the first game where we feel he could be available for some minutes. He's nowhere near ready to start, but could he play 10 or 15 minutes? We’re optimistic on that.”
The Revs have used a few players as outside midfielders, including Tomas Chancalay, Esmir Bajraktarevic, and Nacho Gil.
While Porter praised his wingers, he also recognized that Borrero offers something different.
“[Borrero] will bring a lot,” Porter said. “He is individually talented. He is very dynamic. He is a one-on-one penetrator and when you look at our team right now, we need a little bit of that.
“We're happy right now with the guys on the wings. They are playing well, but we kind of have two pocket guys, and I prefer a stretch guy and a pocket guy, ideally.
“So, can we get Esmir to play a little bit more vertical? Because he is athletic and he is dynamic. He wants the ball at his feet a lot, but we need him to move off the ball a little bit more and stretch and run behind, because he does have the capability to do that. Dylan just does that naturally.”
