Dylan Borrero Close To Returning To Revolution
Porter: “I would expect for him to possibly see some minutes, at the latest, [against Inter] Miami.”
Dylan Borrero is close to returning to the New England Revolution.
The speedy winger was injured on Apr. 29, 2023 when he landed awkwardly during a home game against FC Cincinnati. On May 24, it was announced that Borrero underwent successful surgery to repair a torn left ACL. The expected timeline for recovery was 9 to 12 months.
On Thursday, head coach Caleb Porter said that a return is near.
“He is close,” Porter said. “He's been training full out with us, actually. And we're hopeful that he will factor in possibly in the next couple of weeks and games.”
“We have to be patient though, because he's been out for a year. In fact, I think it's nearly exactly a year since he got injured, which is a long time to be out. So, we have to build his fitness back up slowly, we have to make sure that his tactical understanding in terms of his integration into our team is there, and his form.”
Porter noted that since Borrero is a winger, it’s easier to get him minutes compared to defensive players. The Colombian will likely be a bench option before returning to the starting lineup.
The prospect of Borrero being back on the field is an exciting one as he had five goals and three assists in 20 regular-season appearances with the Revs.
Teammate Henry Kessler gave positive feedback regarding what he’s seen of Borrero during recent practices.
“Yeah, he is electric,” Kessler said. “He looks really good, looks quick. He always has been. And so, we're excited to have him back, and I'm really glad to hear that he's almost ready.”
While things can change, Porter predicts that Borrero will be playing games for the Revolution by Apr. 27.
“I would expect for him to possibly see some minutes, at the latest, [against Inter] Miami.”
This is good news.
