Carles Gil Inks Multi-Year Extension
The Designate Player remains in New England through the 2026 MLS season with a club option for 2027!
Massive news on captain Carles Gil’s future with the New England Revolution came to light Thursday morning as the club announced the Spanish midfielder signed a multi-year contract extension.
Numerous questions loomed over Gil as he entered the final year of the extension he signed in May 2021. Those questions disperse as Gil will remain in New England through the 2026 MLS season with a one-year club option for the 2027 season.
2024 marks his sixth season in New England after the club acquired him in January 2019. Through those six seasons, the Designated Player ranks fourth in goal contributions with 112 across all competitions.
Gil’s time in New England has seen him rack up numerous awards, as he won Newcomer of the Year in 2019 and went on to win the Landon Donovan Most Valuable Player award in 2021 after playing a role in the Revolution’s Supporters’ Shield-winning campaign.
“During my time in New England with the Revolution, I have been able to rediscover my joy on the field and I am at my happiest when I am playing winning football for our supporters. I have cherished my last five years with the club and enjoy the competitive league, playing with my teammates, and our great fans,” Gil said. “I have so much more to give to this club and the supporters, who give me all their backing and confidence as their captain. For Maria, Marco, and I, Boston has become our home. I am excited to continue my career in New England and will give everything on the pitch to win trophies for this club.
“A player of Carles’ caliber deciding to extend his tenure with our club makes an important statement about his belief in our direction and our ability to compete for trophies together,” head coach Caleb Porter added.
Gil and the New England Revolution return to MLS action on Saturday, March 9th, as they travel south to face Atlanta United at 7:30 PM ET on MLS Season Pass.
