Caleb Porter Gives Injury Updates For Mensah, Jones, Buck, and Borrero
Here's the latest on the Revs' injured players.
New England Revolution head coach Caleb Porter provided injury updates on Tuesday.
Jonathan Mensah has been sidelined since Apr. 6 when he departed in the 44th minute in a game against Charlotte FC. Porter estimated that the center back is “probably a week away” from being recovered from his hamstring injury.
DeJuan Jones, who left 26 minutes into the Apr. 13 game against New York City FC with a hamstring tear, is approximately “three weeks away,” according to Porter.
Noel Buck joined the injury list last week when he exited the Toronto game in the 44th minute with a quad injury.
“Buck, a little quad, day-to-day still,” Porter said. “It's not a major one, it’s a minor one. [He] could be available, could be next week, too. It’s a grade one, so it's very minor.”
Dylan Borrero has been out since Apr. 29, 2023 because he landed awkwardly during a home game against FC Cincinnati. He ultimately had a successful surgery to repair a torn left ACL.
The road to recovery has been long, but the speedy winger is close to returning.
“Borrero, a year out [from his injury], still working back in,” Porter said. “It seems with him it's like two steps forward, one step back a little. I think that is what is going to happen.
“He had a major knee injury, so his body is just getting used to football again. It's a demanding sport and the way he plays is very dynamic. There’s a lot of change of direction, explosive movements all the time.”
The Revs have been eyeing Saturday’s game against Inter Miami as an opportunity to get Borrero minutes. There’s still a chance that happens, though a final decision hadn’t been made on Tuesday.
“I can't tell you right now whether or not he is going to be available,” Porter said. “I wish he was, but it's kind of day-to-day a little bit. He has done a lot over the last four weeks and his body is just feeling it a little bit, so we might need to back him down.
“But I'll tell you this: if he's available, he will play. He won't start, but he will play a role, because he brings game-changing ability, brings talent, brings penetration. He brings goals which is what we need. We need talent.”
Many hamstring injuries... is there an issue with the sports performance area?
