Caleb Porter Excited By Dylan Borrero Return
But another player saw his season come crashing down
Lost in the mayhem of Inter Miami and Lionel Messi’s takeover of Gillette Stadium was the fact that Dylan Borrero made his return to the pitch after a lengthy spell on the sidelines due to a knee injury. It might have only been around 10 minutes, but after essentially a year on the sidelines; it was a big moment for the Colombian.
The U-22 signing showed the speed and skill that make him a fan favorite. While he has a long way to go before making a return to the starting XI, his performance against Miami was a great first step.
“Dylan's going to help us,” Revolution head coach Caleb Porter said after the match. “I think he’s talented, he's dynamic, he's good one-on-one. We've been missing that game changer. Hopefully, we can just keep building. It's going to take some time. We knew he had maybe 10 minutes in this game, and we just have to be careful because it's been a year since he’s been out and it was a major injury. I like him. He’s going to help us.”
But Borrero’s return will cause some slight problems for Porter. New England has a deep group of wingers that includes, Tomas Chancalay, Esmir Bajraktarevic, Ema Boateng, and Nacho Gil.
Porter’s choice got a little bit easier, albeit in unfortunate fashion as Nacho Gil suffered a non-contact injury towards the end of the match.
“I don't think it's good,” Porter said of Gil’s injury. “It's a non-contact [injury]. So, I don't want to overreact, but it didn’t look good.”
Gil was also seen leaving Gillette Stadium in crutches.
When you add in Giacomo Vrioni’s struggles at striker, Chancalay seems poised to stay up top while Borrero will eventually return to his starting spot on the wing.
“I think he was wide at times as well, but we're thinking ahead with Dylan [Borrero] coming back and he plays that left [winger position] really well, and so I think there's something there with him up top and eventually, Dylan wide,” Porter stated.
Revolution fans have been waiting to see Borrero and Chancalay on the field at the same time. Their skill and flair make for fun watching and hopefully some goals.
Both are much needed this season for fans in New England.
