Boston Legacy To Play 2026 Home Games At Gillette Stadium
Delays in the White Stadium renovations force the NWSL expansion side to find a temporary home for their inaugural season.
Boston Legacy’s dreams of playing inside White Stadium will have to wait as The Boston Globe’s Michael Silverman reports the renovation work to White Stadium will not be completed by the start of the team’s inaugural NWSL season in 2026.
A source close to Silverman said the ongoing lawsuit by the Emerald Necklace Conservatory caused delays in the White Stadium renovation project.
While White Stadium could be functional come the middle of next summer, a midseason venue shift was deemed “impractical” by Boston Legacy.
With White Stadium unavailable, Boston Legacy will play all its 2026 home games in the confines of Foxboro’s Gillette Stadium.
In a statement to The Globe, Boston Legacy admits that while construction is “well underway”, it won’t be completed in time for the 2026 season.
“We have selected Gillette Stadium as an alternative for 2026 to ensure the consistent, high-level experience our fans and players deserve,” the club added.
While unexpected, the team did reiterate their commitment to White Stadium and the City of Boston.
“Boston Legacy’s home is White Stadium,” the club said. “We have signed a binding agreement with the City of Boston, and have contributed over half the costs of the renovation, and have committed to spending at least 50% of those dollars with local, minority-, and women-owned businesses. As part of our lease with the City, we will cover the full cost to operate and maintain White Stadium for decades.”
Fans of the NWSL expansion are eagerly awaiting June 7 as the club plans to unveil their crest and host a watch party for Gotham FC vs Kansas City Current at the Boston Common.
With the Revolution, Boston Legacy, and FIFA World Cup Matches, Gillette Stadium will be the place to be for soccer fans come 2026.
So a brand-new grass surface will be played on by two professional teams for months leading up to the men's World Cup?
