Boston Legacy FC announced the signing of Casey Murphy today, adding another goalkeeper to its roster. Murphy is joining as a free agent and will be with the team through 2029 with a mutual option for an additional year.
“I’m excited to be in such a sports city. They call it ‘Title Town’ for a reason, and I’m excited to build a culture here from the ground up and be a part of something new,” said Murphy. “There’s a lot of exciting energy and ambition around this team that drew me to it, and I’m just looking forward to putting my leadership skills on display and setting the standard each day for my teammates and meeting new people and getting involved in the community as well.”
The goalkeeper has the most NWSL experience out of the current roster. She joined the league in 2019 when she signed with OL Reign (then Reign FC). Murphy was traded to the North Carolina Courage prior to the 2021 season and made her mark on the team. She served as the the team’s starting goalie since her arrival and even earned Iron Woman status in 2024 after playing every minute of the regular season.
The 29-year-old had four shutouts this season and recorded 65 saves and 32 goals conceded. The Bridgewater, New Jersey native was also part of the U.S. Women’s National Team pool and had 15 clean sheets in her 20 international caps. She was named to the 2023 World Cup Roster as well as a call up to the 2024 Olympic team that won gold in Paris.
“We are delighted to welcome Casey Murphy to Boston Legacy FC. Casey comes to Boston with vast experience both in the NWSL and at the national team level,” said Boston Legacy general manager Domè Guasch. “Casey’s track record gives her a strong foundation for this next chapter in Boston. Beyond her quality as a goalkeeper, Casey is a true leader. We believe this will be a great addition as we build our first roster for 2026.”
