With eight matches left on the schedule and 11 points currently separating them from the final play-in spot for the postseason, the Revs are entering what is traditionally thought to be the MLS stretch run.
The final two months of Major League Soccer’s 238-day regular season provides teams with one final chance to make a push. Whether that is scrapping for playoff positions, fighting for top seeding, or even just showing signs of life and giving fans hope for next year.
It is the most exciting time of the year for MLS fans. Summer player acquisitions are starting to show their impact, dark-horse teams are beginning their ascent, the storylines are coming to a head. The stakes feel high each and every week as the race for the Supporter’s Shield nears its conclusion.
For fans of the New England Revolution, this is more like “apple-picking season”.
While the Revs aren’t yet mathematically eliminated from playoff contention, there are several underlying numbers that appear to make that eventuality more of a “when” rather than an “if”.
