The New England Revolution made history on Saturday when they defeated the Philadelphia Union 2-1 to extend their home unbeaten streak to 6-0-0.
It's the best-ever home start in club history, breaking the record set in 2021 when the Revs hoisted the Supporters' Shield.
While the achievement deserves recognition, there's also an understanding that work remains to be done.
"We can't ignore if we are doing great things and [setting] records," head coach Marko Mitrovic said. "That is something that will stay written there for some period of time. I wish that we can break those records more often, whatever they are.
"But I think we will be more aware about those records one day. Right now, we just don't have time for that. We have time to just keep working day-by-day and making the best version of ourselves on that day."
The first half of the Philadelphia game was cagey, as neither team recorded a shot on target. But the visitors entered the break with a one-goal advantage after Will Sands accidentally put one past Matt Turner.
The Union almost collected a second goal in the 59th minute, but Mamadou Fofana made a goal-line clearance. Luca Langoni curled in an equalizer two minutes later.
The Revs went ahead in the 87th minute when Brooklyn Raines won a tackle, allowing Matt Polster to combine with Carles Gil. Dor Turgeman held the ball up, eventually leading to Gil's third goal in as many games.
It was the Revs' fourth come-from-behind victory of the season, a sign of the team's togetherness.
"Our fighting spirit always has to be present," Mitrovic said. "It’s something that I know is easy to say as a coach, but it’s non-negotiable. You have to have a group of people that are ready to do that day after day. I am really positive about how everything has gone so far."
The Revs are undefeated since Apr. 4, going 6-0-1. They sit second in the Eastern Conference after missing the playoffs for two straight seasons.
Mitrovic made history of his own, becoming the first coach in Revs history to win seven of his first 11 matches.
Alhassan Yusuf, who arrived in New England in August 2024, isn't surprised by the team's success, as the team has been well-prepared since preseason.
"I think [Mitrovic] brought so much intensity," Alhassan Yusuf said. "I think that's what we've lacked the whole time I've been here before he came: the intensity.
"For sure, I know we have the quality in the dressing room, but then the intensity wasn't there. But when he came, you could see it from the beginning. In training, trying to push [us], in a – I don't know – strict but in a positive way.
"You have to have someone to push you in every training, every passing, every exercise. It's not just training, it's game tempo. I think that's what really helped us in the game."
While the players are happy to be in the upper echelon of the league with one-third of the season expired, they're taking it one day at a time, just like their head coach.
"The most important thing is to stay calm, focus, stay humble, and just keep going," Yusuf said. "Like we always say, never get satisfied and just keep going."
