Boston Legacy FC announced that defender Kaká has suffered an ankle fracture and ligament rupture.

The Brazilian underwent successful surgery on Tuesday, March 31 to repair a deltoid ligament rupture and a fibular fracture in her left ankle. The team said she is expected to make a full recovery but did not provide any additional details on a recovery timeline. Kaká said on an Instagram post that the injury occurred during training.

The defender was placed on the 45-day injury list, meaning she will be unable to participate in any soccer activities for at least that amount of time, and the team now has the option to sign someone to a roster relief contract. BLFC declined to comment when asked whether it plans on signing a replacement player.

This is yet another blow to the team’s backline, as Laís Araújo and Nicki Hernandez have also been out dealing with injuries.

A full availability report for the Legacy’s game against the San Diego Wave is expected to be published by the end of Thursday.
