Hartford Athletic were held scoreless for the fourth consecutive game in all competitions as both Hartford and Loudoun United failed to score on Saturday evening. The Latics did pick up their fourth clean sheet in seven league games, but continued to stutter in attack in the 0-0 draw.

Hartford actually had two excellent opportunities to go ahead inside the first 5 minutes, but Loudoun keeper Adam Beaudry did extremely well to deny them in both instances. Both chances came from corners, as Sebastian Anderson found the head of TJ Presthus, but Beaudry reacted extremely well to keep the score level.

The next big chance for either side came in the 22nd minute when a bouncing ball fell to the feet of Augestine Williams in the box, but he could not direct his shot on target, blasting over from just a few yards out. At this point, Hartford had probably been the better side – in fact Loudoun had not been credited with a single shot – but it was hardly an overwhelming attacking performance.

As the first half progressed, it seemed that the players down the left hand side of the Loudoun defense were not quite able to live with Michee Ngalina but Hartford were unable to turn that dominance into a goal, despite attacking down that side nearly 60% of the time.

It seemed that referee Atahan Yaya appeared to be a losing control of the game, which was growing increasingly chippy. Both teams were appealing for fouls that weren’t given but Yaya seemed reluctant to blow the whistle. Brendan Burke earned a yellow for dissent, but the referee didn’t brandish one at a player until Ritichie Aman’s rather cynical late challenge on Sebastian Anderson in first-half stoppage time.

By halftime, Loudoun manager Anthony Limbrick was probably the happier of the two skippers. Despite some early good chances, Hartford had failed to really generate meaningful opportunities, and Loudoun had grown into the game and perhaps been the more threatening of the two sides as the half wound down.

Hartford began the second half in much the same way as it did the first, with Williams heading just over from close range in the 49th minute. The Latics were, however, unable to sustain the pressure, with their next chance not coming until substitute Andres Hernandez had a shot blocked in the 71st minute, after the midfielder had done very well to win the ball in a dangerous area.

There were good chance for both sides in the closing stages. For Hartford, TJ Presthus hit the bar with a powerful header in the 87th minute, and for Loudoun, Thorleifur Úlfarsson fired just wide from outside the box in the second minute of added time. Despite those chances, neither team could find the breakthrough, and the game finished nil-nil.

One bright spot for Hartford was the return of Samuel Careaga, who has not seen action since the season opener in Jacksonville on March 7. Brendan Burke said it was great to get him back on the field and with Hartford desperately in need of goals, it’s to be hoped that he can contribute something in that area sooner rather than later.

Hartford Athletic are back in action next Saturday as they take on RIFC in USL Cup action, the second of four scheduled meetings between the two clubs in 2026.
