The last two years have been difficult for New England Revolution fans and the club at large and Carles Gil was not immune to noticing the teams struggles.
In a conversation with WCVB's Angel Salcedo, the captain discussed how new head coach Marko Mitrovic has impacted the club already.
"The arrival of coach Mitrović has helped me to return my belief in the club and in the team, and really think that we can compete again like we did years ago." - Carles Gil
New England's struggles are well known. They have missed the playoffs two seasons in a row. Two years of Gil's career effectively wasted.
While New England struggled, Gil maintained his high standards. In 2025 he appeared in all 34 games and scored 10 goals and 14 assists. In 2024 he scored seven goals and 10 assists.
With Mitrovic at the helm, Gil seems free to roam around the field as he looks to create goalscoring opportunities. The potential 4-3-3 could be the change New England needs to turn its fortunes around.
"This group needed someone with very clear ideas like Marko who can give us the tools on the pitch for us to succeed, and to be a team that is recognizable, right? With the ball and without the ball," Gil said. "Later everything will come out for better or for worse, because you’re playing against other teams who also have their own ideas, but at least we’ll be a team that is recognizable on the pitch. One that competes and wins matches."
