Boston Legacy FC fell 2-1 against Seattle Reign FC in its first home match at Centreville Bank Stadium in Rhode Island Friday.
Head Coach Filipa Patão started Casey Murphy in goal, accompanied by Emerson Elgin, Laurel Ansbrow, and Jorelyn Carabalí on the defensive line. Josefine Hasbo, Annie Karich, Alba Caño, and Bárbara Olivieri took the midfield. Aïssata Traoré was the striker and had Sammy Smith on the left wing and Nichelle Prince to her right.
Here are three thoughts from the game.
Boston (Streak) Breakers
The Seattle Reign broke three streaks Friday:
- Reign five-game winless streak
- Reign five-game scoreless streak
- Legacy five-game unbeaten streak
Seattle’s Sofia Huerta was the first on the board after her team was awarded a penalty kick from a Carabalí handball in the box. The goal gave Seattle an early lead in the 11th minute.
Maddie Dahlien scored the Reign’s second goal early in the first half after making an unmarked run into the box.
Traoré scored Boston’s lone goal in second half stoppage time, minutes after her previous goal was disallowed due to being offside.
And while we’re at it, Boston also broke a streak of its own: a 10-game card streak. Though the team committed 11 fouls (third most this season), this was the only game so far where no one was booked for a card.
