The Athletic has come out with the first part of its anonymous executive survey for 2026. Make sure to go read it as it has some interesting tidbits from teams around the league.
But for Revs fans, here are three thoughts on the New England-related findings.
Chris Tierney Will Be An MLS GM
Out of 19 votes, Tierney earned the top spot with six executives saying he would be the next No. 2 front office guy to earn a chief soccer officer role. The former player is in his second season serving as an assistant sporting director under Curt Onalfo.
Honestly, Tierney could have had a job if New England parted ways with Onalfo after firing Caleb Porter. Revs fans likely would have preferred that.
Tierney has been someone who seems well respected around the league and this is further proof of that. If it isn't in New England, he will be a general manager somewhere else in due time.
Fortress Foxboro
Gillette Stadium might be a tough place for opponents to play for all the wrong reasons. The stadium was ranked the second worst in MLS only behind BC Place in Vancouver.
Executives noted the turf and overall environment. They clearly have not been to the Lighthouse or had any chicken tenders.
While Gillette Stadium isn't great, I am quite shocked that NYCFC isn't at the top of the list. I would rather play on a football field than a baseball field any day of the week. Additionally, I thought Audi Field was a nice stadium; the worst thing about it is the press box, but I assume these executives don't sit there.
Turner's Standing
Revolution fans love Matt Turner and it is hard to blame them. He is a talented goalkeeper who is also very personable off of the field.
Turner was tied for fourth with Matt Freese in the goalkeeping ranks according to MLS executives. Dayne St. Clair took the top spot followed by Roman Burki. Burki is the only other DP on the list besides Turner.
This is my issue with the Revolution goalkeeper being a designated player. If he is taking up one of those roster spots, then you have to be arguably the best goalkeeper in the league. At one point, Turner was the best goalkeeper in the league, but that is no longer the case.
New England has the ability to buy him down, but I hope that the Revolution better utilize their roster spots in the upcoming windows.
