One of the marquee group finishes saw hosts Canada battling until the end against higher ranked Switzerland while Bosnia all but assured themselves a third place spot in the Round of 32.
SWITZERLAND 2, CANADA 1
Well the first half was bad, but the second half was tremendous. Ruben Vargas slotted home the opener just seconds after the restart when he gathered and rifled home Johan Manzambi's cross through the box originally intended for but behind striker Breel Embolo.
Ten minutes or so later with Manzambi playing finisher as Embolo held up the ball and attracted several defenders, leaving plenty of room to slide a pass over as Manzambi finished under Maxime Crepeau who got a massive piece of the ball as it went through him into the net.

Canada responded with a flurry of substitutions after going down a second goal, but it was their introduction in the 74th that made the impact. In an absolutely stunning display of talent and filth, Nathan Saliba controlled and volleyed a ball back across the box and the newly introduced Promise David smashed a sidefooted volley into the net past a stranded Gregor Kobel to make things 2-1 in the 76th.
Try as they might, Canada could not get the equalizer they needed to top the group with Alistair Johnston and Derek Cornelius helping to put the pressure late. But the delayed response until conceding their second goal was what doomed the Canucks as their comeback bid ran out of time.

What a solo goal to put his side in front first! pic.twitter.com/N95ApKvdQd
That's an 18-year old who started 22 games for RB Salzburg last year and had nine goals. We know about his teammate Esmir Bajraktarevic that we covered extensively while he was with the New England Revolution but these young Dragons can indeed ball.
Now, they didn't make it easy on themselves as several of them watched a ball go through their own six before getting squared to Hassan Al-Haydos to make it 2-1 right before the half, but Bosnia were always largely in control of this one before Ermin Mahmic sealed things in the 80th minute.

It's a little bit of a let down for Canada but their sense of urgency came surely an hour too late. Switzerland were likely the slight favorites in this group despite having to win on host soil.
Canada now loses home field advantage but gets to play South Africa in the next round in California so that's not all that bad. The Swiss as group winners will play one of the third place teams a week from now on July 2nd in Vancouver.
Bosnia is almost certainly through on four points but have to wait and see who their opponent will be but a likely matchup with the United States barring a 1-in-300 or something chance of shenanigans occurring. Perhaps not the most deserving reward for finishing on four points but that should be a very fun matchup next week.
