Vermont Green FC advanced to the USL League Two Semifinal as the Green secured a 4-0 win over Asheville City SC in Laredo, Texas.

Seth Wilson started in net behind the backline of Nikos Clarke-Tosczak, Brandon Marshall, Nicolas McHenry and Trym Linberg. Efe Aror and Connor Miller were in the midfield while Xavi O'Neil and Diego Rosas were on the wings. Ryan Zellefrow was the No. 10 while Jeremy Francou was the lone striker.

It didn't take long for Vermont to find the back of the net as Rosas streaked up the field after receiving a great pass to get him in on goal. The winger sent a pass across goal to a trailing Francou at the far post with the striker sliding to put the ball away in the third minute.

The magic continued in the eighth minute as McHenry floated a free kick over the wall and into the back of the net to give the Green a 2-0 lead.

Asheville would respond as it put Vermont under some pressure after the 10th minute. Wilson was forced to make a save, and Asheville got a free kick opportunity just outside the box in the 17th minute, but the chance was wasted as the attempt flew over goal.

Heading into the hydration break, Vermont's early momentum had been slightly quelled, but the Green were in full control of the match. This continued afterwards as Asheville tried to claw back into the game before the first 45 minutes had concluded.

But Vermont managed to score a critical goal with O'Neil finding the back of the net. Linberg played a beautiful cross off of a corner, and the winger didn't let the chance go to waste as he calmly slotted the shot into the back of the net in the 39th minute.

Asheville would continue to attempt to break Vermont's backline but was unsuccessful. In the 65th minute the Green made their first changes as Zellefrow and Francou were replaced by David Ajagbe and Andrea DiBlasio.

Asheville got a great chance in the 72nd minute but the shot was sent just wide of the post. Heading into the hydration break, Vermont needed to tighten up to ensure it saw out the result.

But just as it looked like Asheville might strike back, a Vermont player was taken down in the box and a penalty kick was awarded in the 85th minute. Ajagbe stepped to the spot and had his penalty saved in the 86th minute. Di Blasio would make up for the miss from the striker as he played Ajagbe wide and later got the ball back in front of goal and smashed the ball into the back of the net in the 89th minute.

With the win, Vermont will face either Laredo Heat SC or Fort Lauderdale United FC.
