After an international break that gave the New England Revolution a week of rest, the club is gearing up for the final stretch of the season and competing in the MLS Cup Playoffs.
New England is currently in second place in the Eastern Conference. A playoff berth is nearly locked up, and there is a real chance that the Revs end up one of the top teams in the league. It will be their first playoff appearance since 2023.
Matt Polster and assistant coach Michael Morris spoke on Tuesday. Here are some thoughts.
Peyton Miller
Peyton Miller is having a great 2026. Along with having the best season of his professional career on the club level, Miller earned his first senior national team start along with making his United States Men's National Team debut.
After starting against Peru and playing 62 minutes, Miller didn't feature against Chile and made a cameo appearance off the bench against Mexico.
“It's been good, it has been positive steps forward for Peyton [Miller]. I was fortunate enough to work with Peyton for several moments, with the [United States] Under-20s, and then worked with him again with the Under-21 and Under-23 groups that I had," Morris said. "So, he's done a good job of attracting a lot of attention for himself. He still has a long way to go in terms of his defending behaviors and actions. But it's exciting to see the steps that he's taking forward. I think what's more exciting is we believe we can continue to hold him to his highest standard possible because he has a ceiling that we think he's not even close to touching [yet].”
Miller has done a good job on the ball for the U.S. and has been a positive addition to the attack. His only struggles came in defense, which is understandable considering he has been playing as a forward for New England.
If Miller can improve his defending ability – as Morris said – he will be a nearly perfect player. The fact that he hasn't reached his ceiling should be a scary thought for defenders all across the globe.
