The first New England Derby in MLS NEXT Pro took place as league newcomers CT United FC traveled 128 miles northeast to meet New England Revolution II inside Beirne Stadium on the campus of Bryant University. Revs II was able to secure the win with a 2-0 victory.
Pablo Moreira made three changes from the lineup that picked up its first regulation victory over FC Cincinnati 2 last weekend. First team keeper Donovan Parisian started in goal behind the backline of Schinieder Mimy, Chris Mbaï Assem, Javaun Mussenden, and Damario McIntosh. Allan Oyirwoth, Eric Klein, and Cristiano Oliveira formed the midfield three behind the attacking trio of Makai Wells, Malcolm Fry, and Jayden Da.
Shavar Thomas made four changes from the lineup that secured a 2-1 victory over Philadelphia Union II. Anthony Ramos got the start in goal behind the backline of Andre Applewhaite, Lukas Kamrath, Jahvar Stephenson, and Rickson Van Hees. Daniel D’Ippolito, Steven Sserwadda, and Robbie Mora formed the midfield three behind the attacking trio of former Revs II man Alex Monis, Barnabás Tanyi, and Laurie Goddard.
After being under a barragement of chances from CT United, New England found one of its own in the 18th minute as a series of passes led the ball to Damario McIntosh, who sprung the ball up field to Jayden Da, who outmuscled his defender and found himself one-on-one with Ramos, and slotted the ball past the Connecticut keeper to net his first goal of the 2026 season to give Revolution II the 1-0 lead.
Thomas was forced to go to the bench just before halftime as Michael Boamah replaced Lukas Kamrath, who appeared to have slightly tweaked his right hamstring and was unable to continue. CT United made another substitution at halftime as Dylan Lacey replaced Robbie Mora.
Revolution II upped the ante in the 56th minute after Cristiano Oliveira received a pass from Schinieder Mimy, turned to goal, and tapped a ball into the path of a darting Malcolm Fry, who lashed the ball past Ramos and into the net to double New England’s lead.
Both sides went to the bench in the 60th minute as New England subbed on Myles Morgan in place of goalscorer Malcolm Fry. On the other side, CT United FC brought Ibrahim Kasule and Ernesto Gómez on in place of Daniel D’Ippolito and Alex Monis. Another change came New England’s way in the 69th minute as Carlos Zambrano replaced Makai Wells. Both sides made their final changes of the match in the 79th minute as New England subbed Sharod George and Judah Siqueira in place of Jayden Da and Cristiano Oliveira.
Sunday’s result sees Revolution II climb to second place in the East with 10 points on a 2-0-2 record with two shootout victories. CT United FC finds itself in ninth place with six points on a 2-2-0 record.
Revolution II will look to extend their unbeaten run to start the 2026 season to five when they welcome Red Bull New York II to Beirne Stadium next Sunday. CT United FC gets some rest as they look to bounce back after suffering a second defeat in three games. Their next outing will be a historic one for the club as they welcome Columbus Crew 2 to UConn’s Morrone Stadium on April 11th in what will mark the club’s inaugural home game.
