New England Revolution II
The Pablo Moreira Era got off to a good start last week when the club clawed its way back into the game following a horrific own goal to secure a point, thanks to Myles Morgan’s 70th-minute strike to secure a 1-1 draw at the end of regulation.
Thanks to two saves from Donovan Parisian, plus strikes from Jayden Da, Eric Klein, Javaun Mussenden, and Carlos Zambrano, Revolution II walked away from opening day with two points following a 4-2 shootout victory.
Da will look to fine-tune his game after a strong but frustrating performance against Atlanta. He ended the night with four of seven shots on target, two shots blocked, two big chances missed, and five offside calls. Despite the challenges faced in regulation, he came up big to find the back of the net in the opening round of the shootout.
Defender Jake Shannon will look to make his Revolution II and professional debut after being an unused substitute in the season opener. Shannon joined New England in the offseason after spending four seasons at the collegiate level with UNC Wilmington.
Former Academy midfielder Judah Siqueira will look to make his first appearance after signing a three-year MLS NEXT Pro contract on Thursday. The Easton native clocked eight minutes off the bench in last week’s season opener.
Toronto FC II
Gianni Cimini returns for a fifth year at the helm of Toronto FC II as he looks to make it back to the playoffs for the first time since his first season in 2022.
Things didn’t go to plan for Cimini and Toronto on opening weekend. Despite ending the match with a staggering 68% possession, they walked out of Subaru Park with zero points after Malik Jakupovic’s eighth-minute strike led Philadelphia Union II to a 1-0 shutout victory.
Former Vermont Green FC defender Reid Fisher returns to New England for a third time since being selected with the 23rd overall pick in the 2025 MLS SuperDraft. Fisher spent the summer of 2024 with the USL League Two side.
Previous Meetings
Sunday will mark the 16th all-time meeting between New England and Toronto. Revolution II holds the historical advantage with a 6-3-6 record with five shootout victories.
The past eight meetings between the two sides have seen New England go undefeated with a 3-0-5 record, including five shootout victories.
New England has held Toronto goalless in five of its 15 meetings. Something they’ll hope to do again on Sunday.
