The New England Revolution drew 2-2 to Eastern Conference opponent CF Montreal on Saturday night after going up 2-0 in the 1st half. Here are three thoughts
Revolution's Big Players Continue To Come Up Big
After a slow first match back vs Toronto FC, the stars in New England have come back to show out.
Starting with Dor Turgeman, prior to the break, the Israeli forward was heavily criticized for his lack of scoring threats in 2026 after an outstanding final 3 games to the 2025 campaign, scoring thrice and assisting once. Since the break and more importantly, the last two matches, he's managed two goals and an assist, an uptick in form in which the Revolution desperately needed their $6 million striker to hit, needing consistency in goal scoring.
Continuing on, Matt Turner, after being brought back on loan once more, has been vital, with at least four big saves just this match, saving the Revs on multiple occasions since coming back from the World Cup.
Similarly, Carles Gil came to play. Between his match before and now after his All-Star game appearance, he's got two goals in the last two games, proving he still has that magic even at age 33.
NE Struggled To Adapt To 2nd Half Montreal
In a match that looked like the Revolution would run away with it after two goals within six minutes, Montreal exited the locker room after halftime as a completely different team. Between changing Matty Longstaff for Olger Escobar and what looked like a change in style, Montreal came back firing, with an otherworldly strike from Brayan Vera and a Prince Owusu goal to put the home side back on level terms with the Revs.
Throughout the remainder of the match, New England just couldn't get a string of chances in a row as it did in the 1st; rather, it was Montreal with the movement and attack in the 2nd.
Peyton Miller Keeps Getting Better And Better
After this draw, the talk of the town will be something along the lines of Turgeman's antics and choice shots, or that it bottled its lead.
But there should be a focus on Revolution starboy Peyton Miller. Since Marko Mitrovic joined as head coach, Miller has slowly been moved from a fullback, as he played all of last year with the Revs, into a more attacking winger slot, as he would when called up to U.S. youth teams, subsequently coached by Marko Mitrovic prior to his New England arrival.
These last two matches have been a testament to Mitrovic's belief in Miller as an attacker, with a goal v Atlanta and now an assist v Montreal. This brings the 18-year-old's tally to four goals and an assist this season, but that doesn't tell the full story, as the young American's service in has also greatly improved. Miller very well could've had two, if not more, assists tonight if it were for some better timing, but his improvement both in g/a along with his service in can't go unnoticed.
The Revolution's next match comes when they return home to Gillette Stadium, as they'll face Western Conference side Houston Dynamo FC.
