Vermont Green FC Named 2023 USL League Two Organization of the Year
“This club belongs to the supporters. They are the heartbeat of the club and none of our achievements (big or small) would be possible without them.”
While Vermont Green FC missed the playoffs they did take some hardware home for their efforts in 2023 as they were named USL League Two’s Organization of the Year.
The United Soccer League recognized the Green for a successful 10-3-1 record in the Northeast Division, and applauded the club’s commitment to reducing carbon emissions on its path to becoming a Net Zero club. Vermont Green FC boasted an average league attendance of over 2,200 in the 2023 season, the second highest in all of USL League Two.
“We’re honored to have named Vermont Green the 2023 League Two Organization of the Year!" said Joel Nash, SVP of Youth & Pre-Professional properties. "From the inception of the idea, the club’s founders have maintained a clear and resolute vision for the type of impact, through the beautiful game, that they believed could be achieved. This could only come about through fully committed fans and partners, which has continued to grow year over year. We’re delighted that League Two has been the platform for The Green to educate and inspire people across the globe towards environmental justice, all while delivering exciting soccer to their fans."
The Green have created an amazing atmosphere on and off the pitch. Head coach Adam Pfeifer has cultivated a squad filled with talent since the club‘s inception in 2022 and Virtue Stadium is constantly flooded with fans to cheer the boys in green on.
“On behalf of everyone at Vermont Green FC, we are honored to receive this recognition from the league, who have been so instrumental and supportive for our growth in our first two seasons.” said Sam Glickman, Vermont Green FC co-founder. “We are incredibly grateful to our staff, players, partners and most importantly our amazing fans and community for being the heart and soul of this club. Vermont Green is a collective effort, and this community’s passion and commitment is quickly putting Vermont, and our club’s environmental justice mission, on the map of world football.”
Fellow co-founder Matthew Wolff also highlighted the community’s support when reflecting on the award.
“This club belongs to the supporters,” he told The Blazing Musket. “They are the heartbeat of the club and none of our achievements (big or small) would be possible without them.”
While some might take the opportunity to gloat and bask in the glory of the award, The Green are excited to allow the honor to shine a light on their partners.
“It’s incredible to receive a recognition like this from USL League Two, especially with such emphasis on the work being done by the club to advance environmental justice and climate action here in Vermont,” co-founder Patrick Infurna added. “Any recognition for what we’re building as a soccer club is an opportunity to put more attention on the fantastic people and organizations that we partner with that are working every day for a more environmentally sustainable and socially just world. We’re so grateful.”
