Transfer Rumor: New England Revolution Close to Signing Iddrisu Baba
Midfielder expected to be New England bound shortly
On Thursday, Caleb Porter discussed the possibility of adding some “pieces” in the current transfer window before it closes next week. Less than 24 hours later, one of the Revolution’s targets has been revealed.
Hugo Cerezo of Relevo is reporting midfielder Iddrisu Baba is close to joining the New England Revolution. Baba most recently played with Almeria of La Liga while on loan from Mallorca.
According to Cerezo, Almeria has a mandatory purchase option for Baba at the end of the loan. However, with Almeria’s pending relegation from La Liga, Baba is no longer in their plans for next season.
While the deal is not finalized, Cerezo says the deal is “in its final phase” and none of the parties involved expect any problems for the deal to be finalized.
The 28-year-old Baba has spent most of his career with Mallorca, starting over 100 games for them across La Liga and Segunda, before his loan to Almeria where he played in 24 matches (14 starts) this season for the soon-to-be-relegated side.
Baba has also made 27 appearances for the Ghanaian national team, including three games in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.
Is this a defensive midfielder? Or are we just looking to field an entire team of midfielders?
We have so many midfielders and yet we’re adding another?
