RIFC Find Motivation From Fans
RIFC look to earn their first win as they head to California to face off against Monterey Bay in their first match on the road.
When asked about the atmosphere of Rhode Island FC’s first ever match, Noah Fuson had high praise for the fans, and how their support provided extra motivation for the players on the field.
“From the first kick-off we heard the fans, they were loud for ninety minutes and kept us going,” he said. “They kept us going. Sometimes you get a little tired in the game but having the fans behind us and the drums and the chants, it keeps you going and motivates you to give your all for ninety minutes.”
Despite it officially being credited as an own goal on the stat sheet, Fuson played a vital role in the scoring of Rhode Island’s first goal in club history.
“Especially in the situation we were in being down 1-0 in the ninety-fourth minute, I was just honored and bless to be able to be a part of a moment that’s going to be in the club’s history forever,” he stated. “I’m just glad it went in.”
After being moved to the left wing in the dying minutes of the game, Fuson recognized the amount of space he was being given on the sideline and knew if played the ball he would have an opportunity to get the ball into the box, which was exactly what he did in the game’s 91st minute.
When asked about preparations for the team’s trip to California, Fuson — a CA native — admitted that it would be a difficult match on the road against a club that’s doing well but that Rhode Island has watched film and shifted its focus to sharpening their style of play so that they can come home with three points.
RIFC will travel to Cardinale Stadium in Seaside, California to take on Monterey Bay on Sunday night, with kick-off slated for 6:00 PM EST.
