New England Revolution II:
Revs II fought hard on the road to secure a point in their last outing, as Jack Panayotou’s volley led to a 1-1 draw at the end of regulation. Despite a valiant effort, Revolution II fell short in the shootout as Chicago Fire II took the additional point home with a 5-3 shootout victory. Sunday’s shootout marked Revolution II’s first shootout loss in 2023, as they were a perfect four-for-four entering Sunday’s contest.
Sunday’s contest provides newcomer Jordan Adebayo-Smith another opportunity to shine against his former team. Adebayo-Smith spent the 2022 season on loan with the then USL Championship side from the Tampa Bay Rowdies. The striker appeared in 33 contests for NYRB II, where he notched seven goals and three assists over 2,465 minutes.
Speaking of newcomers, we may also get our first glimpse of Patrick Leal. The former Revolution Academy midfielder inked a deal with Revs II on Friday after spending five years with CF Belenenses, Sporting, and Venezia’s youth academies.
Sunday’s match is pivotal to Revolution II’s playoff picture. While they enter the game in second place with 39 points on a 10-5-5 record with four shootout victories, NYRB II finds themselves in fourth with 36 points on a 10-6-4 record with two shootout victories. A win over NYRB would create space for Revolution II entering the home stretch of the 2023 regular season as the club looks to earn its first playoff berth in club history.
New York Red Bulls:
NYRB II enters Sunday’s match following a 2-1 win over Orlando City B at home on July 31st as they secured their 10th win of the 2023 campaign.
New York's success has come from the feet of Ibrahim Kasule, as the 19-year-old has notched a team-high ten goals and four assists over 18 appearances. Kasule's efforts in July earned him league recognition as he was one of two players named Player of the Month after scoring in all four of NYRB II's games in July.
Frank Ssebufu’s feet have also led to success for New York, as the 21-year-old has notched five goals and one assist over 20 appearances.
Revolution II has to watch for Wikelman Carmona and Ricardo Gorday as well. The duo has notched four goals over five and 14 appearances, respectively.22
Revs II will be in for a challenge if AJ Marcucci is in net for NYRB II. The 24-year-old has appeared in 16 contests for New York, where he’s notched 57 saves along with six clean sheets while only allowing 18 goals.

Sunday’s meeting marks the third meeting between New England and New York. NYRB II holds the upper hand in the all-time series as they remain undefeated against Revs II with a 2-0-0 record.
Their first-ever meeting came on April 21st, 2023, where Oladayo Thomas’ 76th-minute goal led to NYRB II picking up a 1-0 victory inside Gillette Stadium.
Their most recent meeting came on June 4th, 2023, when a quartet of goals from Julian Hall, Oladayo Thomas, Ronald Donkor, and Ibrahim Kasule led to NYRB II securing a 4-1 victory at home. Jack Panayotou’s 7th-minute goal prevented Revolution II from suffering a shutout.
