Revolution II:
Clint Peay and Revolution II come into Sunday’s contest on the verge of making club history. After winning their last three matches, a win over NYRB II would extend their winning streak to four games, which would tie Revs II's longest win streak.
After two straight come-from-behind victories, Revs II looked for composure in their last outing against reigning MLS NEXT Pro champions Crew II. Good fortune came Revolution II’s way in the 34th minute when Peyton Miller lobbed a ball upfield. Crew 2 attempted to clear the ball away from a darting Jordan Adebayo-Smith, but it pinballed between the keeper and Adebayo-Smith. The striker ran onto the ball and slotted the ball into the empty net.
Ben Awashie doubled Revs II’s lead in the 67th after Pierre Cayet’s header deflected off the left goal post and bounced to Awashie. No comeback is necessary as Nico Campuzano secured Revolution II's first clean sheet of the 2023 campaign and some delicious Dunkin’ donuts.
Revolution II’s offense has been the key to their success in 2023, as the club leads the league in scoring with twenty-six. Defense, on the other hand, has been spotty as they rank in the top three in goals allowed with twenty-two. Despite that, Revs II have stayed afloat in 2023 as they currently sit in third place of the Eastern Conference with twenty points on a 6-3-1 record with one shootout victory.
Inter Miami II:
Inter Miami II enters Sunday’s contest amid a skid as they’ve only secured one point in their last three matches, with shutout losses to NYRB II and Orlando City B in their previous two contests. Inter Miami is currently riding a 189-minute scoreless drought. Their last goal came from Lucas Meek in the 81st minute in May 14th’s 2-2 draw against Philadelphia Union II.
It's been a rough campaign for Miami as they are tied with Philadelphia Union II for the worst goal differential in the Eastern Conference with -7. While they have conceded a lot, Miami has shown moments of offensive prowess as they have netted fourteen times this season.
Lucas Meek has been the biggest producer for Inter Miami II, as he’s netted three goals over nine appearances. Lorenzo D’Agostini is another player to watch, as he’s netted two goals over seven appearances.
Previous Meetings:
Sunday will mark the seventh meeting between Revs II and Inter Miami. Revolution II holds the upper hand historically, but Inter Miami has gotten the better of Revs II in recent history.
Their first meeting came on October 9th, 2020, when the Revs hosted the then Fort Lauderdale CF. A quartet of goals from Nicolas Firmino, Justin Rennicks, Ryan Spaulding, and Tiago Mendonca led Revs II to a 4-1 win.
Revolution II opened their 2021 campaign against Fort Lauderdale as Ryan Sierakowski’s lone goal led Revs II to a 1-0 shutout. The final meeting of 2021 also ended in a 1-0 shutout for Revolution II as Pierre Cayet’s first goal with the club provided them with the win. Their fourth meeting came on May 1st, 2021, as an own goal from Noah Allen led Revolution II to a 1-0 victory.
June 4th, 2022, is when the tides turned in Inter Miami’s favor. Goals from Shaan Hundal and Tyler Bagley led Miami to a 2-0 shutout and their first victory over Revs II.
Their most recent meeting came on August 7th, 2022, when goals from Michael DeShields and Meny Silva were not enough to overcome Shanyder Borrgelin's hat trick and a goal from Benjamin Cremachi.
