Revolution II Keep Undefeated Streak Alive
A dominant performance keeps their clean sheet and undefeated streaks alive!
Friday saw Richie Williams and New England Revolution II return to action as they hosted Toronto FC II. The club looked to build on an impressive start to the 2025 season that’s seen them amass a 1-0-1 record while holding their opposition scoreless for the first 180 minutes.
Williams made three changes from the starting XI that saw them secure their first victory of the new campaign after picking up a 2-0 win over FC Cincinnati 2. Donovan Parisian made his first start for the organization since being selected with the 18th overall pick in 2025’s MLS SuperDraft. Hesron Barry, Keegan Hughes, Victor Souza, and Damario McIntosh comprised the backline. Cristiano Oliveira, Eric Klein, and Allan Oyirwoth formed the midfield, while Gevork Diarbian, Damorney Hutchinson, and Marcos Dias provided the attack.
Some controversy arose in the 16th minute when Toronto's Ythalo pulled Hutchinson back and prevented a one-on-one chance against the keeper. Surprisingly, Ythalo only saw a yellow card for the infringement.
They say ball don’t lie, and it didn’t for Revolution II as Dias capitalized on the ensuing free kick. The striker proceeded to rocket the free kick to the bottom-right side of the net as it dribbled past Adisa De Rosario to give Revs II the 1-0 lead in the 17th minute. Dias’ 17th-minute strike increased his all-time tally to 26 goals scored.
A counter attack nearly paid dividends for Revs II in the 42nd minute. After darting up the middle, Dias slotted the ball to Diarbian on the right. The former Vermont Green FC forward ran at De Rosario and attempted to rocket a ball into the upper half of the net, but De Rosario got his hands to it and pounced onto the rebound to end the Revolution’s chance.
A well-timed tackle from Dias in the 59th minute nearly led Revs II to double their lead. The striker stuck his foot in to dispossess Toronto at midfield and tapped the ball forward into the path of Diarbian. The winger darted up the left flank before turning toward goal. Diarbian attempted to curl a shot to the right side of the net, but it didn’t bend in time as it sailed out for a goal kick.
Williams went to the bench in the 64th minute as Liam Butts and Olger Escobar came on to replace Hutchinson and Oliveira. The pair of subs had an instantaneous impact on the game.
Escobar started by playing a ball up to Diarbian on the left. The winger attempted a shot, but it didn't reach its target as it fell to Butts, who drilled the ball home to tally his first goal of the year to put Revs II up 2-0. Butts came close to finding his second of the game in the 74th minute when he attempted to rocket the shot to the bottom-left corner but unfortunately for Butts, the shot just whiffed wide of the net.
Thanks to De Rosario coming off his line, Revolution II extended their lead to four in the 88th minute. It started with Klein attempting to lob a ball forward into the empty net, but Toronto’s defense recovered to clear it off the goal line. The clearance fell to Dias, who slotted it back to Butts, who hammered home his second goal of the day to propel Revs II to a 4-0 victory.
Revs II now have three clean sheets in their opening three matches. They’ve now surpassed their 2024 clean sheet total of two and have become the first Revs II squad to start the year with three clean sheets in club history.
Williams and crew will look to build on the momentum generated from their first three games as they hit the road on April 9 to take on Orlando City B at 7:00 PM ET.
Well played game. These kids are more exciting to watch than the first team.
