New England Revolution to Play Hartford in U.S. Open Cup
The inaugural Blazing Musket Derby is set for the third round of the U.S. Open Cup!
The New England Revolution learned who they will face in the third round of the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup as U.S. Soccer conducted the third-round draw.
The Revolution were put into the Northeast group alongside USL Championship’s Louden United and Hartford Athletic, as well as NISA’s Flower City Union.
Revs fans didn’t have to wait long as the Northeast group was the first to be determined. After shuffling the envelopes, Loudoun United was the first club revealed as they earned the first of two home slots. Nervous moments as the Revs only had a 50/50 shot of being selected as the second host team in the Northeast.
Thankfully, the Revs saw their envelope picked as they earned the H2 slot. With that out of the way, it was time to learn who the Revs would host in the third round. After another shuffle, Flower City Union drew the A1 slot. With Hartford Athletic being the last remaining envelope, they drew the A2 slot.
With Hartford drawing the Revs in the third round, we will see the inaugural Blazing Musket Derby! While April’s Open Cup contest will be the first professional meeting of the year with Hartford, it isn’t the first time both organizations have met in 2023. On March 5th, Revolution II hosted Hartford for a preseason friendly inside Gillette. Hartford walked out victorious on a 2-0 scoreline.
It was announced that the Revs will host Hartford Athletic at Gillette Stadium on Tuesday, April 25th, at 7:30 PM. Tickets for the match are expected to go on sale on April 11th.
Everett is what - 3 years away?
I’d rather this be in Hartford
