Leo Campana Displays Goalscoring Ability Against Hartford Athletic
"I would have liked to see a few more goals, but I thought the actual cutting edge of our attack was there today."
The New England Revolution were in desperate need of a goalscorer in 2024. A week away from 2025, it appears that they have one up top.
Leo Campana was arguably the biggest offseason acquisition that the Revolution made. The striker was acquired for $2,000,000 in 2025 General Allocation Money (GAM), $500,000 in 2026 GAM and the GAM haul that Inter Miami gets could increase up to $750,000 in conditional GAM if certain performance-based incentives are met.
In the 39th minute, Campana would show off his goalscoring ability. The striker got his head on a looping corner from Jackson Yueill to give New England a 1-0 lead.
This is the goal that was desperately missing from New England last season. The fact that they scored off a corner was already impressive but the fact that Campana was able to use his aerial ability should have fans excited for the start of the 2025 campaign.
“He's just a quality player,” Porter said when asked by The Blazing Musket about Campana’s performance. “You can see he's very smooth. Balls into him, he's not losing it. He's combining with Carles, holding the ball, makes really good runs.”
While Porter was impressed with Campana, he did note that there were some additional chances for the striker and the rest of the attack to score that New England was unable to convert on. Still, the Revolution dominated the game and were creating chances quite often.
“I would have liked to see a few more goals, but I thought the actual cutting edge of our attack was there today,” Porter said. “We got in behind them a lot. We got in great spots.”
If the Revolution are going to be successful in 2025, Campana will play a major role. He will be relied upon to score goals and take advantage of the chances he is given. The striker was able to do so in the preseason, the question is can he do it when three points are up for grabs?
