Max Weinstein Happy to be Back on Pitch
Hear what the young netminder had to say after notching Revolution II's second clean sheet of the season!
With fellow keeper JD Gunn and the first team turning their attention to the knockout stage of the Leagues Cup tournament, Wednesday’s Revs II match saw the return of Max Weinstein in goal for the first time since June 1.
The 20-year-old netminder was pivotal in Revolution II securing their first point since June 14 as he made two saves while completing 11 of 17 passes, two punches, and four recoveries. Despite making the effort in the shootout, Cincinnati secured the additional point with a 6-5 victory.
Despite the result, head coach Richie Williams had praise for the young keeper.
“I thought Max did well,” the head coach said. “He had a couple good saves, played out of the back. His decision-making was good and showed more composure. Obviously, he’s still a young player coming up and it takes time, especially goalkeepers who develop later. I thought Max was solid today, and he did a good job for us.”
Weinstein told The Blazing Musket he was “Happy to be back on the field and happy to be out there competing with my teammates.”
Before Wednesday's match, Weinstein said he wanted to “compete and have my teammates trust me, to work on that trust within them, and to obviously get better for things I need to work on myself.”
While Revs II didn’t win the shootout, Weinstein was incredibly proud to notch New England Revolution II’s second clean sheet of the season.
“It just felt great to get a clean sheet and contribute with some big saves. I think there were a lot of positives today,” the goalkeeper said.
Weinstein will look to make a second-straight start in goal on August 18 when Revolution II hits the road as they face third-place Columbus Crew 2 at 6:00 pm ET.
Hope to see more time invested him, think he has a higher ceiling than JD. Hopefully he can push for the first team backup role in 2025.
Glad to see Max between the pipes. I thought 2024 would have been Max's year when they released Jackson. But Williams I guess had other ideas. Hope to see more of Max in the coming games.
