Liam Butts Named MLS NEXT Pro Player of Matchweek 24
Butts' efforts against Union II earn him league honors!
Monday saw Revolution II forward Liam Butts receive league recognition as he was named MLS NEXT Pro Player of Matchweek 24 following his performance against Philadelphia Union II.
Butts’ day got rolling in the 35th minute when a series of passes following a throw-in led to Marcos Dias lobbing a ball forward into the path of Butts, who volleyed the ball into the upper-right corner of the net to give New England the 1-0 lead.
After an own goal from Philadelphia had Revs II up 2-0, Butts’ day went from good to great in the 40th minute after a poor touch from Philadelphia led Marcos Dias to intercept the ball at midfield. Dias and Butts proceeded to exchange give-and-go passes upfield before reaching the penalty spot when Butts slotted the ball past Mike Sheridan to give Revolution II a 3-0 lead.
Butts’ offensive flurry led him to make club history as his two goals increased his 2025 tally to 11, making him the second player to reach double-digit goals for Revs II. Butts now trails Jordan Adebayo-Smith’s single-season goal record by one.
Butts will look to keep up his productive 2025 season when Revolution II returns to Gillette to host Chicago Fire II on Sunday.
