Just four months after being the first player to wear the colors of RIFC, Koke Vegas will be the first person to wear the armband for the club.
Rhode Island FC made the announcement on social media that the 28-year-old goalkeeper has been named the team’s captain for the 2024 season.
Vegas joined RIFC shortly after the 2023 USL season concluded as their first-string goalkeeper. Vegas joins the expansion side from now-defunct San Diego Loyal, where he made 61 starts for San Diego over two seasons with 31 wins and 15 clean sheets.
Vegas will lead RIFC onto the pitch for the first time this weekend, when RIFC plays New Mexico United at a sold-out crowd in Smithfield.
Koke is a great choice for captain! He put in 110% effort when playing for San Diego
