Jay Chapman Joins Charleston Battery on Loan from Hartford Athletic
Another high-upside offseason signing for Hartford Athletic sees a premature exit, despite being a regular in Brendan Burke's starting XI.
Midfielder Jay Chapman has joined Charleston Battery for the remainder of the season on loan, Hartford Athletic announced Thursday.
The former Major League Soccer veteran, who made over 100 appearances across stints with Toronto FC and Inter Miami CF, signed with Hartford ahead of the 2024 season, where he went on to score one goal in 17 starts for the Green and Blue as a regular in Brendan Burke’s staring lineup.
However, despite only missing one game through the first 18 games of the season, the 30-year-old seemingly fell out of favor in recent weeks, failing to appear in the match day squad at all in the last two matches before the club ultimately made his departure official.
The reason for the move is unclear, and for the time being, there is no corresponding transaction involved. The move isn’t the first midseason departure for the Green and Blue, who also have offloaded Romario Williams, Rece Buckmaster and Enoch Mushagalusa in recent months.
Hartford are back in action this weekend as they wrap up a stretch of three games in eight days with a trip to Birmingham Legion FC. Kickoff from Protective Stadium is set for 7:30 p.m.
