Henry Kessler Returns To Full Training After Groin Injury
Kessler: "I'm talking with the performance staff, the strength guys to work on whatever I can do better to keep myself healthy.”
Henry Kessler is back on the field after pulling the left side of his groin during preseason.
The center-back was a full participant during Tuesday’s training session and is hoping to play in a game soon.
Last year, Kessler missed 24 consecutive league games due to a right hamstring injury that required surgery. He recovered before the season ended.
This new injury is different, though still frustrating.
“Totally different [injury], different severity,” Kessler said. “But you know, it is frustrating to be injured again. But we're doing what we can. I'm talking with the performance staff, the strength guys to work on whatever I can do better to keep myself healthy.”
While Kessler is entering his fifth season with the Revolution, it’s his first under Caleb Porter.
“I think he's really intense,” Kessler said of Porter. “He holds us to a high standard, which I think is great.”
He added, “I’m an intense guy on the field and so is he, so I feel like we get along quite well.”
Like any new coach, Porter is integrating his own tactics. Kessler specifically noted that the team has a new way of pressing.
“For me, the biggest difference is pressing,” Kessler said. “We have really clear triggers of when we want to press. [We have] an idea of how to press where I feel like we're less man-to-man. Those are the biggest differences, I'd say.”
