Caleb Porter Offers Injury Update Ahead of NYCFC Match
The Revs are getting healthier
New England Revolution head coach Caleb Porter offered an injury update that is sure to please Revolution fans.
“[Brandon Bye] is doing well,” Porter said. “He's doing more and more on the pitch. He's still probably three, four weeks away from being full out. DeJuan [Jones] is back in, obviously. You saw, he played a little over 30 minutes in the game, so we'll keep progressing him along. It's great to have him back for sure. Dylan [Borrero] as well, it kind of got lost in the shuffle a little bit, him starting the game, and he didn't get a chance to show his level, but I think he did show flashes of what he can do. He was very dangerous even though we were down a man.”
The progress of Bye is particularly promising considering the return of Jones in the game prior. If New England is able to get both outside backs healthy, the attack will be bolstered. While it remains to be seen if Bye and Jones will fit in Porter’s system, the addition of Bye will surely be a positive for the squad.
Porter stated that having his desired outside backs will help his system run properly.
“We're getting full strength, and to kind of make your system of play work, your game model work, you need every piece working in harmony,” he said. “I feel like we've not had the exact dimension in the wing positions that we were looking for in terms of a stretch and pocket guy. Same thing with two outside backs that can kind of overlap and play box-to-box and get in the attack, provide width.”
So it is a promising sign to see New England get healthier and healthier as the season has progressed. Fans will be excited to see Bye return to the pitch and Porter is probably awaiting his return.
The issue is that New England is in a free fall. They are at the bottom of the Eastern Conference with only two wins this season. If the Revolution continue to lose games, New England could be forced to fire the head coach before Bye even comes back.
Defeating third-place New York City FC on Saturday would be a positive step towards gaining the trust of the fanbase.
What is a "a stretch and pocket guy"? Never heard that term before. Can't wait for the excuses when his "system" still doesn't work with Bye and Jones.
