While Major League Soccer fans patiently await the shift to a summer-spring schedule in mid-2027, the league has announced the format of the “Sprint Season” that will take place ahead of the calendar shift in the summer.
The beginning of 2027 will see all MLS clubs play a 14-game schedule, with each team facing every other team in their conference once, featuring seven home games and seven away games. Once the 14 games have been played, the top eight teams from each conference will advance to the MLS Cup Playoffs. The postseason will feature single-elimination games across its entirety.
The 2027 Sprint Season will also have implications outside Major League Soccer, as the shortened season will determine 2028 Concacaf Champions Cup and 2028 Leagues Cup qualification.
A schedule for the 2027 Sprint Season will be announced in the coming months.
