Goalkeeper JD Gunn started in goal for Revolution II for the first time since signing a first-team contract on February 5.
Gunn’s first outing of 2026 was a solid one as he made two saves in regulation to earn his fourth career shutout with Revs II as the game ended in a scoreless draw. Gunn’s excellence continued in the shootout as he made two big saves as New England secured the additional point following a 7-6 shootout victory.
Following the match, The Blazing Musket got the chance to chat with Gunn about the match, his mentality in shootouts, and his experiences with the first team. While he was overall happy with Sunday’s performance, he did express a bit of disappointment in his start to the shootout, but went on to emphasize how his confidence as a keeper plays a big role in getting results in the shootout.
As a member of the first team, Gunn has worked more with fellow first-team and USMNT goalkeeper Matt Turner. It’s something Gunn says has a lot of impact on his game when he comes down to play with Revolution II.
“Training with a goalie like Matt, obviously, has accomplished a lot in his career," Gunn said. "A good player to be around on a daily basis. He sets the standard, and the rest of us try to follow it.
"I think that helps raise our level," Gunn later added. "If I'm training with the first team week in week out, then I drop down and play with the 2nd team, I think that I'm prepared to be a leader and to take what I've done with the first team throughout the week and step up and do it with the 2nd team.”
The match against Toronto FC's second team was a solid performance for the Panamanian keeper, who is looking to earn his spot on the nation’s World Cup roster ahead of this summer’s tournament.
