Boston Legacy FC’s Fauzia Najjemba has been added to the season-ending injury list.
The 22-year-old suffered a right rectus femoris tendon rupture during training on July 9. She is expected to make a full recovery and will be re-evaluated biweekly by Dr. Kelly McInnis, the team’s chief medical officer.
The forward made four appearances before she was placed on the injury list at the end of April. She was able to play 13 minutes against Bay FC on July 5 before rupturing her tendon days later.
Najjemba is the latest player to sustain an injury that will take months to rehabilitate. Kaká and Chloe Ricketts were both placed on the 45-day injury list earlier in the season and are still working on getting back on the field.
Kaká underwent ankle surgery in April but seems to be day-to-day, as she was recently seen running before a game. Ricketts also had ankle surgery in June and is expected to make a full recovery, though a timeline is unclear.
On top of that, there are other players who have been out of commission in the past weeks.
Laís Araújo dealt with a thigh injury that prevented her from playing until late April. She had the opportunity to start five games but has subsequently been questionable or unavailable for several games.
Josefine Hasbo has been unavailable since returning from the June break, but the team has not shared details on her lower leg injury.
