After starting the 2026 Major League Soccer season with two losses, the New England Revolution realize that they need to improve.
Fresh off a disappointing 2025 season, fans were hopeful that with Marko Mitrovic patrolling the touchline and a full season of Dor Turgeman, New England would be scoring goals and securing three points on a more consistent basis.
But the Revolution attack has stagnated. New England was essentially invisible in the final third against Nashville, and while there were signs of improvement against New York, the Revs didn't score a single goal.
“That’s something we’re working on," Mitrovic said regarding the attack. "We want to score the goals, and at the end of the day that’s something that we [work on] most – how to get in goal-scoring opportunities and score goals. That’s what matters in our game, and how we create conditions to get there. Did we create enough against Nashville and Red Bull? No, definitely not. It’s something that we have to keep working on and improving day by day.”
The Revolution will have plenty of time to work on the attack as their next match isn't until March 15. The club had to postpone its original home opener due to issues with the Gillette Stadium playing surface due to the massive snowfall Massachusetts recently received.
After a rough start to the season on the road, New England will look to turn its season around in Foxboro.
“I think that there is so much parity in this league that you need to take advantage of all the advantages you can get, and having a good record at home is one of the most important things you can do to get a good playoff push," left back Will Sands said. "I think that was something that we really needed to work on last year. Hopefully can do a better job at [winning home games] this year.
“I think the fans deserve better," Sands later added regarding the team's home performances. "Putting on good performances at home and getting results is the first step we need to take, and we are focusing on it this year.”
It is very early in the season but losing the first three games of the season would be brutal for Revolution fans. The team has struggled mightily the last two years and there was lots of hope heading into 2026. As fans are well aware, struggles early on can create a hole that teams cannot get out of.
Hopefully, the team uses the break to reassess and refocus prior to hitting the field at Gillette Stadium. Whether it is tinkering with tactics or just stepping away and reassessing their mentality, the Revs need to start making some adjustments in order to turn a rough start to the season into a mere momentarily lapse of form.
