Revolution Hope To Extend Unbeaten Road Streak Against Portland
The Revs have a 4-2-4 road record this year.
The New England Revolution are looking to extend their road unbeaten record when they head to Providence Park on Saturday to face the Portland Timbers.
The Revs have been good away from Gillette Stadium this year, accumulating 16 points with a 4-2-4 record. They have one of the longest single-season road unbeaten streaks since 2016, with seven straight results.
Conversely, the Revolution have struggled to collect points at home, with a record of 2-2-4 (8 points). It’s a bit of an anomaly that they can’t fully explain.
“I don’t know,” Aljaz Ivacic said when asked about the difference between playing at home and on the road. “Maybe it’s just the pressure that you have to win home games. But I agree that we have been pretty good on the road and we have been struggling at home, but I don’t have the answer to be honest.”
While stout defending has been a characteristic of the 2025 Revolution, it’s been exceptionally prominent on the road, where they’ve collected five of their seven shutouts.
“I think we are, on the road, definitely a defense-first mentality,” head coach Caleb Porter said. “When you look at the games where we’ve gotten results, it hasn’t always been perfect or pretty, or us with the ball. We have had to grind and claw and scrap, and at times absorb and defend deep.”
The Revs got 1-0 victories at Atlanta United and Charlotte FC, which Porter called “big environments.”
Saturday will present another daunting test as the Revs will play in front of the Portland fans, whom Porter and Ivacic know quite well.
“I think the confidence is super high that we can go and get something out of this game, but we do know we’re going into one of the toughest environments in Major League Soccer,” Porter said.
After that, the club will look to improve their home record, starting with a midweek marquee match against Lionel Messi and Inter Miami CF.
