Revolution Focused On Making 2026 Better After Missing Playoffs Again
Gil: "This club is my home."
The New England Revolution are committed to making next year better after missing the playoffs for a second consecutive season.
A 9-21-4 record (31 points) in 2024 prompted a roster overhaul, during which the Revs brought in 18 new faces. There was improvement in 2025 (9-16-9, 36 points), but playoffs remained elusive.
“We came from last year, a bad season, and we wanted to change almost everything,” Carles Gil reflected. “We bring in new players, but we didn’t find the way to react, to be the team that we want to be.”
The club parted ways with head coach Caleb Porter on Sept. 15 after 75 games in charge. They’re currently in the midst of finding a new voice to lead from the sidelines.
“For me, the way that I see football, I know the coach is key,” Gil said. “He can change everything. Hopefully, like I said, the one who is coming can help the club to be back to a good team, a team that can compete since the first game until the playoffs.”
While the coaching hire looms large, the players understand that they have a significant role in bringing success to New England.
Gil, who noted that he has one guaranteed and one option year left on his contract, wants to help.
The Designated Player was named as the team’s MVP for the fifth time just before kickoff of Saturday’s 2-2 draw with the Chicago Fire. Gil got an assist to end 2025 with ten goals and 14 helpers.
“This club is my home,” Gil said. “And obviously I want to win too. So yeah, we will have more talks with the club and try to find the best way to help the team in everything.”
Leo Campana, who came to New England from Inter Miami CF in the offseason, is also focused on pushing the club forward.
For him, each training session has to be intense, with everyone having a winning mentality. He hopes to set that standard in the new year.
“I want to be tougher on the guys because I think, like I said, we need to change a couple of things in here,” Campana said. “It starts in the trainings, it starts with us, to compete better. I told [Matt Polster] that I’m going to be a motherf*cker (laughter). Sorry.
“I think we need it to raise the levels and, as I said, to compete. It’s only for the best for the team.”
Campana should stay silent and work on that glass body of his so it doesn't break all the time.
You have to love Carles Gil.
