Recap: Revs II Defeat OCB In SO
In their final home match for the 2023 regular season Revs II were able to extend their unbeaten streak to twelve matches.
Revolution II faced off against Orlando City B in Foxboro on Thursday night for their final home match of the regular season. Coming off of a win against Huntsville the Revs only made two changes to their starting eleven, seeing Jake Rozhansky and Damian Rivera earn starting spots.
The hosts had a flurry of opportunities in the opening minutes of the match as Joshua Bolma, Marcos Dias and Rivera all created back-to-back-to-back chances that were saved by Orlando’s keeper. Victor Souza got the Revs on the board first in the 14th minute, putting away the cross from Jake Rozhansky’s corner kick into the bottom corner of Orlando’s net.
New England made their first changes of the match in the 46th minute as they made a pair of substitutions, Olger Escobar and Ítalo replacing Bolma and Rivera. Tiago Suárez received a yellow card in the 52nd minute, meaning that he will miss the team’s final match as a result of yellow card accumulation.
In the 55th minute, the match went into a delay after Jordan Adebayo-Smith suffered a scary collision with the Orlando keeper around midfield. Despite the circumstances of the collision, no cards were issued by the referee, and luckily Adebayo-Smith was able to re-enter the match and continue playing.
Jack Lynn was able to equalize for Orlando in the 65th minute after getting off a close range from the corner kick.
In the 66th minute New England made another change as Patrick Leal entered the match for Noble Okello. In the 74th minute, Leal was shown a yellow by the referee for a poor tackle, and just two minutes later Rozhansky was also booked by the official. Another change for New England came in the 78th minute when Ben Awashie checked in for Rozhansky
In the final minutes of extra time, New England applied the pressure as they searched for a game-winner, hoping to earn all three points. Dias and Escobar were both able to find opportunities, but their shots from distance were just wide of the intended target.
With neither team able to break the deadlock, the match headed into penalties, and Revs II was able to once again extend their unbeaten run which now sits at twelve.
After some back and forth between both teams it was Marcos Dias who sealed the shoot-out win for New England, securing them two points as they continue to hope to catch Crown Legacy in the standings.
With one game remaining for the 2023 regular season, Revs II will travel to Matthews, North Carolina to take on Crown Legacy FC on Sunday, September 17th. Kickoff is scheduled for 5:00 PM EST, and you can tune into the action on Apple TV’s MLS Season Pass.
Recap: Revs II Defeat OCB In SO
Max Weinstein was the hero of the shootout - two big saves (the first coming when the Revs were down 1 in kicks, with just a couple to go) made the difference.
I don't know what this ref was looking at when Jordan Adebayo-Smith was clearly taken out. For the goal keeper to be that far out of his net and Jordan looking up at the ball the keeper just plowed into him. To call it 50/50 asinine. That was the only thing the goal keeper do. If Jordan got by him it was a sure goal. We all know how tough Jordan is as he was able to continue.
