Hartford Athletic Fire Omid Namazi
Namazi was 2-14-2 with the Green and Blue since taking over on July 3.
After amassing only two wins in his brief tenure as head coach in 2023, Hartford Athletic announced Tuesday the firing of head coach Omid Namazi.
Namazi, who took over for Tab Ramos midway through the 2023 campaign after spending the first half of the season as an assistant coach, oversaw an overall record of 2-14-2 at the helm — including only one win at Trinity Health Stadium.
Hartford’s 2023 as a whole saw them finish dead last in the Eastern Conference with only four wins and 18 points — the worst season in club history. Their 24 losses were only two removed from the highest total in league history.
Prior to his time in Hartford, Namazi spent the majority of the last decade alongside Ramos, including time with Major League Soccer side Houston Dynamo and the U.S. Youth National teams as an assistant coach. His appointment in Hartford was his first as head coach since his time with Danish side FC Helsingør in 2019.
“On behalf of Hartford Athletic, I want to thank Omid for his hard work and commitment to the Club,” Hartford CEO Nick Sakiewicz said in a club statement. “We all wish him the best in his future endeavors.”
Hartford will begin the search for a new head coach effective immediately as they look to prepare for the 2024 USL Championship season.
