Culture Shift Occurring in New England
“I think the culture, the culture that we’re creating, the friendship inside and outside the pitch, it’s really important."
The New England Revolution and fans of the club are ready to put 2024 in the rearview mirror and there appears to be a culture shift occurring within the club.
There are a ton of new players in New England and overall there is a sense of positivity oozing from those offseason additions and the likes of Caleb Porter. Speaking to media on Tuesday, the head coach discussed how much he enjoys coaching this group of players and the locker room culture that has developed prior to the start of the season.
“If you scout the right way, you know what you are getting in terms of the play, the qualities, and the character,” Porter said. “I feel like we did our due diligence on every guy to kind of know what we were getting. For me, the fun part, though, is really developing the true relationship with each guy. You don’t get to do that in the recruiting process. You try to predict what they’re going to be like in the locker room or what they’re going to be like as people, but it’s so nice to get to know them and get to know their cultures. We have guys from all over the world, so really just learning about them as people, that’s the fun part.”
The players are also noticing the culture that is being built. Striker Leo Campana noted how important culture is to the team.
“I think the culture, the culture that we’re creating, the friendship inside and outside the pitch, it’s really important,” Campana said. “I think that takes a long time, but in the few weeks that we had, it was really important, what we built throughout the weeks. So I think that’s important for this upcoming match, to get that, to be all together, to get the three points and start on the right foot in the [season].”
Culture is important. It creates an environment where players are not allowed to slack and everyone is fighting for the badge. If a locker room is toxic, the results on the pitch are likely to be poor as well.
But the evidence of a strong culture is how it deals with adversity. With the 2025 MLS season on the horizon and points being on the line, the new Revolution culture will be put to the test.
So, in other words, the problems last year can be laid to the culture of the team last year? What made it different this year other than the fact that Porter tossed just about everyone off the team? I am sorry, but this is a bunch of BS.
The only culture they had from Porter was who was he going to throw under the bus. He put all the blame on the players. They couldn't build a culture with the high school coach.
