Carles Gil Comments On His Season
Carles Gil: "I’m not playing the way I want, but I’m working hard. I’m trying to help the team."
Carles Gil is working hard to be the best he can for the New England Revolution.
The attacking midfielder has three regular-season goals but no assists despite ranking second in the league in key passes (25). At times, Gil has dropped deeper to receive the ball.
“I’m trying to find these moments,” Gil said. “I like to keep myself closer on the ball. Sometimes it’s hard, because there are many defensive players there. I’m trying. I’m not playing the way I want, but I’m working hard. I’m trying to help the team. Sometimes it’s keeping the ball and sometimes it’s scoring goals.”
As a whole, the Revs haven’t performed how they want as they currently sit at the bottom of the Eastern Conference with four points and a -9 goal differential.
This moment presents Gil with a challenge he’s ready to take on.
“I want to be better with the ball, without the ball, scoring more goals, giving more assists,” Gil said. “I’m working very hard. I’m happy because sometimes it’s a challenge.
“Since I came here, I think most of the times have been very good times for me and the team, and now no. So, it’s a big challenge for me and for the team to show that we can change everything now.”
Head coach Caleb Porter thinks highly of his captain, noting, “He is always intense. He's always focused.” He expects the same mindset when Inter Miami come to town on Saturday with their star-studded roster.
Regarding the lack of assists, Porter believes Gil needs some help.
“I think he can get more assists if we get more runs behind,” Porter said. “It's that simple. When you look at some of the chances that we should have scored, then he's probably got four or five assists right there if a guy finishes the play. That's what I think.”
So dear, Carles, what has changed? Hmmm.
Carles looked so happy when he signed his new deal and at the beginning of the season. No he doesn't look happy at all. I don't think he thought the Porter style was going to be so disruptive to all the players. I feel for him and if I was in his shoes I would be asking for a TRADE.
