Boston Legacy FC Names First President
“The club has a bold vision to become the best sports team in the world and is committed to investing in the players, facilities, and innovation needed to get there.”
Boston Legacy FC’s front office has a new arrival, the team announced Tuesday morning.
Jennifer van Dijk has been appointed the Legacy’s first president and will oversee all business operations as well as the club’s long-term strategy.
Van Dijk spent the last two years as the chief executive officer for Superplastic, an animation company with its own universe of characters that has a presence across multiple media platforms.
“I am thrilled to work with Boston Legacy Football Club at such a pivotal moment in women’s soccer,” said van Dijk. “The club has a bold vision to become the best sports team in the world and is committed to investing in the players, facilities, and innovation needed to get there.”
The team president has decades of experience in the digital media and strategy space and has held senior-level roles at several companies within the sports and entertainment industry.
After graduating from Mount Holyoke College in Massachusetts, van Dijk began her career at IMG. She spent nine years at the company, working mostly in emerging digital sports platforms. She then became the senior vice president at Wasserman where she developed partnerships, including endorsement and promotional deals.
Van Dijk eventually moved on to the professional league realm, taking the vice president of team marketing and business operations role at the NBA, then the Chief Strategy Officer position with the LA Clippers. She was responsible for executing corporate partnerships and secured the team its first jersey patch sponsorship with Bumble.
She eventually returned to Wasserman in 2018 as the executive vice president of digital and content partnerships and created the Athlete Exchange division, which packaged branding, content creation, and endorsement services for the agency’s athletes.
Van Dijk became the CEO of Hoonigan, an automotive lifestyle brand, in late 2020, and was subsequently named the president of Dapper Labs North America where she oversaw strategy and licensing in the digital sports collectibles landscape.
“Jennifer is a strategic leader with unmatched experience in sports, entertainment, and digital media,” said BLFC Controlling Owner Jennifer Epstein. “She brings a unique perspective from her work with the NBA and has driven growth and fan engagement across some of the most iconic organizations in the industry. We are fortunate to have her guiding our organization as we build something extraordinary.”
