BOS Nation FC "Reflecting" On Team Name
Will Bostonians convince BOS Nation to change name from BOS Nation
After criticism from fans and casual observers of the sport alike, BOS Nation FC will be spending some time reflecting on its name.
“We want to assure you that we have heard your feedback and are actively listening,” the club posted on its website. “We share your high expectations, and together, we will build a storied club that reflects the essence of the beautiful game and the character of our dynamic city. To that end, we have launched a deliberate process through which we will seek out, listen to, and reflect on input about our team name from fans, supporters, and a group of advisors assembled to reflect a diverse range of voices and perspectives. We are approaching this work with an open mind and will report back as soon as we have more to share.”
The club committed to holding forums with fans, women’s sports advocates, former players, and Boston leaders. Also brand advisors have been brought in to help guide the organization through the process and those wishing to share feedback regarding the name can do so by filling out this form.
NWSL Boston Supporters Association, an independent supporters group for the club, posted on social media that they appreciate the organization's effort.
“We appreciate NWSL Boston for committing to further engagement with the community and for outlining a process to reconsider the team’s name,” the statement said. “We encourage everyone to participate in this process, including providing honest and open feedback through the team’s survey. We are hopeful that, by working together, we will build a team identity that we can all be proud of.”
While not committing to a name change, this seems to be the first step in that potential process. With two years until kickoff, there is plenty of time to change course or for anger regarding BOS Nation FC to subside.
But what is most important is the fact that fans will be able to have their voice heard.
Just change the name already and apologize for the first campaign.
