Aljaz Ivacic Feels Supported In New England
"It's something that I didn't have in Portland but now I have it here"
Aljaz Ivacic is enjoying life in New England so far. The goalkeeper is on top of his game and most importantly, feeling supported by his club.
Ivacic had an unceremonious ending to his career with the Portland Timbers. Ivacic was waived by the Timbers after being suspended by MLS for using “threatening language” toward members of Portland’s staff.
Since joining New England, the goalkeeper has made 54 saves and recorded two clean sheets. He has made some stellar saves and helped New England turn losses into draws and draws into wins.
After New England’s Leagues Cup match against NYCFC, Ivacic gave some insight into why he might be performing so well; the fact that he feels supported by his head coach.
Porter told reporters after New England’s final win in Leagues Cup that he believes Ivacic is one of the best goalkeepers in MLS.
“You know, it's amazing that someone believes in you, like that,” Ivacic said when asked about Porter’s comments you are trying to pay him back on the field. It's really nice. It gives me confidence. It's something that I didn't have in Portland but now I have it here, and I really want to repay the trust, not only from him, but from the collective.”
Ivacic is the clear starter for New England and knows that no one is coming for that job. That gives him the ability to play with boldness and not worry about being benched.
If New England is going to make the playoffs, they will need Ivacic to stand on his head. While the Revs might regain some health, they have struggled to score even when fully healthy this year.
