After making his return to the pitch, Leo Campana could be facing another spell on the sidelines.

Campana had missed two matches due to a lower-body injury. On Saturday's broadcast, the commentating team said that the striker had been dealing with an ankle injury.

Unfortunately, the striker has struggled to stay on the pitch. In previous seasons, Campana has dealt with hamstring issues.

Against St. Louis CITY SC, Campana entered in the 59th minute and was subbed off in the 78th minute. The striker appeared emotional walking off the pitch and had a towel draped over his head as he went straight to the locker room.

Injury problems are extremely frustrating for players. They can feel like their body is letting them down, and every step could be the one that sends them back to the bench. Along with a physical impact, there is a mental toll.

“Really, I hope in the next 24 to 48 hours, we will learn more about his injury," Mitrovic said after the game. "He was out for two-and-a-half weeks and had a really great week of training with the team. We were very positive, but this is a different injury, so we have to see, once he does an MRI, what is the level of his injury.”

Prior to the MLS matchup, it was announced that Campana had been called into Ecuador's National Team. With the World Cup on the horizon, this could have been the striker's last chance to prove he belongs on the World Cup roster. Now his World Cup future is up in the air.

Campana also has to deal with the expectations that come with the price tag New England paid to acquire him. With the Revs paying over $2 million in General Allocation Money, the striker has struggled to validate the cost.

Dor Turgeman and Campana were supposed to be the solution to New England's goalscoring woes. However, whether due to injury or a lack of consistency, the Revolution still need a No.9. This issue even remains when both strikers are healthy, as having just two natural strikers on a roster is a recipe for disaster.

Hopefully, Campana won't be forced to miss much time, if any at all. He had a great start to the year and seemed primed to perform well in the 2026 campaign. But now, the striker is in limbo as he awaits test results.

The Blazing Musket reached out to the club for an update on Campana's status. As of publication, the club has not responded.
